So, after a quick trip to the imdb boards, I realised that having a proper discussion there won't happen for years. I watched Man of Steel yesterday. Let me start out by saying that my expectations were low and I expected not to like it. I was surprised how little I liked it though... Overall I would say my overall experience was feeling bored. It starts out good, even though it took me a while to adjust to a super sci-fi alien universe in a Superman movie. The next hour or so was what ruined it for me. All the stuff with Kal wandering about and the flashbacks felt so episodic to me, jumping from one thing to the next with little to no segways. It was just a matter of accepting "Oh, so we're here now?" but it was difficult and not engaging at all for me. It didn't feel like progression leading up to the discovery of his identity but just "stuff" to make us wait for said discovery, throwing in some exposition and set-ups along the way. When the action finally went down, I had just completely lost interest. Some cool stuff but way too much of it for me, making one completely desensitized (and as you said yourself: The world engine fight was ridiculous). So something to get the ball rolling A lot of people liked this movie, so I'm interested to get some insights as to what grabbed you and what I'm perhaps missing.

Years? Try never. Low expectations usually result in a pretty fun time. No pressure and these comic flicks usually have some pretty cool action sequences to make it worth the price of the ticket. What really took away from the movie for me was the out-of-sequence editing. I get that they wanted to try something different than the Reeve movie, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm not too familiar with the 'out-of-sequence' term. What scenes are you refering to?
